Short Trivia About Jake A. Wheat’s “Color or Die” Novel **SPOILERS**
The Devil Is In The Details:
1. Mr. “B” or Mr. Balam aka. Balam is simply a demon spirit who at the beginning of the story manifests as a possessed youth, and then moves to two other forms. He has a sensual form, and his “God” form which is that of a muscular male, with three heads, and a barbed penis. He is a“real” demon spirit which when researched is quite fascinating. Google him!
2. A bottle of 1787 Chateau Lafitte – humorous and fictional acquisition by our character, Trace, unless it was given to him by supernatural means. The bottle of 1787 Chateau Lafitte, once thought to be owned by Thomas Jefferson, was the most expensive bottle of wine sold at auction ($156,000) – honestly.
3. Soldier’s Dance by William Tell – I was listening to classical music when writing that scene with Dr. Harrid, and that song came on. As I was writing the characters in my head seemed to choreograph well with the song, and so I gave it a mention. I actually gave a few songs mention in the story, because they came on my headphones as I was writing. Odd how that happens.
4. Anna – Detective Hodges had a Wife, but was also “dating” Anna. Re-read that part again.
5. Pope Street – I describe this house in vivid detail, because it exists. It has a trap door that goes into the basement, a walk up (narrow stairway) attic, and the floorboards in the attic can be removed to find “spaces” where a body can be hidden away. I hated the house, and I rented it for over a year, but felt very unsafe there. It was a shotgun, very large, and I always felt watched. I can remember walking out of that house for the last time and feeling like I was being rushed out by something. I never looked back.
6. Eve Adam Drive – A real place, I grew up there as a child. My childhood home is still there, and the neighborhood appears to be still very simple and quiet.
7. Jason Ryan Conner’s Photograph – The B&W photo that appears as Jason Ryan Conner’s character was photoshopped to look murdered, however the wound on his forehead is not fake.Turns out he accidentally hit his head during the shoot, and let it bleed to make the photo more authentic.
8. Clues – I clued readers in to the “changing of the collectors” many times in the transcripts between Hodges and Trace. Trace even says, at one point, that “his last one was most perfect.” He, of course, talking about himself.
9. Spunk Lube – it’s real. When lubrication is needed in my stories, I use either STR8CAMLube or SPUNK. SPUNK is the hybrid lubricate of STR8CamLube, and are sold by my friend Jeff in California who modeled for my book “The Spaghetti Seduction.” Need lube? SpunkLube.com
10. I (Jake Wheat) am fecalphobic, and so writing the scenes with the Hag and her poop issues really grossed me out. In fact, she was one of the few reasons I would have to quit writing for a bit. My imagination went haywire, and I grossed my OWN self out! LOL!
