This is one of those apps that while I am glad I discovered, I feel bad spilling the beans and telling people about…. but that is a good thing, because it’s so useful I don’t want people to not know about it.  The app is called “Advanced Silent Mode,” and that means that I can pretty much tell this app what people I want to ring through on my phone or text, or who I pretty much want to … well, be silent.

Here is why I use this application – and it’s not a rude thing, or anything to take personal.  I mute people that aren’t family at  night time, because when I am trying to sleep the only people that should ring through are a select group of CLOSE friends and my family.  The rest will fall silent, until I pick them up in the morning either by reading their text messages (usually chit-chat) or by voice mail.  This app is a gem, and while it may seem bad to filter out people – I have so many people contacting me that I really do need to filter some of them during the times when I am trying to get to rest.

The app description states:

“The App is useful for anyone who turns their phone on Silent for any period of time who needs to have their phone’s ringer activated for certain contacts, and to have a Call Blocker & SMS Blocker, so you are not disturbed by unknown Calls or Text Messages. Set your phone on Silent Mode or Mute when going to sleep, in a meeting or in a theater with the peace of mind that when Contacts in a List (such as parents, children, partner etc.), Call or Text message (or both), the ringer on the phone will be activated by Advanced Silent Mode.”

The key word is PEACE OF MIND.  I am not going to miss any phone call from any of my family members, or close friends – and if one of my friends is in crisis, I add them to the list of people who can call at ANY time day or night.  That is the beauty of this application, you can customize and edit at will – and still have that PEACE OF MIND when you need that downtime.

Here is my FAVORITE FEATURE – unknown or unwanted calls can be set to not activate the ringer.  In other words, all you recorded bill collecting scum of the Earth, you are WASTING YOUR TIME now!  This is, by far, my favorite feature.

The price of the application is 99 cents, and well worth it.  I have been using this application for a while, and have never had an issue – and love the fact that it gives me a better nights sleep – and I can keep my ringer on.  I no longer have to mute EVERYTHING just to make sure I don’t get disturbed at night.
